Iron Range Reads

Iron Range Reads is a collaborative one book, one community project sponsored by the Ironworld museum and Arrowhead Library System as part of their Hot Reads, Cool Nights winter reading program. Book discussions on Tim OBrien's The Things They Carried will take place at local libraries throughout the month of February to complement the exhibit Requiem: By the Photographers Who Died in Vietnam and Indochina hosted at Ironworld from January 26 through April 20, 2008.

The Things They Carried is a collection of twenty-two interrelated pieces on the experience of the Vietnam War as lived by the members of the fictionalized Alpha Company. Winner of the YALSA Best Books for Young Adults and finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, this book offers the perspective of a Minnesota author and Vietnam veteran on the reality and lasting impact of the war that shaped a generation.

It is the hope of Ironworld and the Arrowhead Library system that these book discussions will encourage community visitation of the Requiem exhibit and spur thought and discussion of the Vietnam War.

The following book discussions are taking place at libraries around the region. Call the library nearest you for details:
