Taconite Tours
Discover first hand what taconite mining is all about! Get a close up view of the taconite industry as you take an exciting tour of a working mining company. This 1 1/2 hour bus tour will take you through the process of converting rock into taconite pellets.A knowledgeable guide will lead you on an adventure where you may see mine workers and their mammoth equipment up close, including gigantic shovels loading 3-story, 240 ton trucks and long trains filled with taconite pellets, drilling rigs and bulldozers of the modern mine.
Children must be 12 years of age and accompanied by an adult.
Active mine tours are available on Wednesdays and Thursdays, June 18 through August 7. Tours depart from Ironworld at noon and return at 2:30 p.m. Cost: $5.00 per person. Advance reservations are required, call ahead to sign up!
