Director of Museums

Philosophy:The Director of Museums will work to enhance Ironworld's Museum through exhibition, programming and fundraising in following IDC's mission of preserving the history and cultural heritage of Northeastern Minnesota.
Major Objectives:The Director of Museums will have chief administrative responsibility for the operation and management of the Museum at IDC's Ironworld site. This senior manager will provide leadership for the collection, interpretation and exhibition of Ironworld's museum that is consistent with the mission and strategic goals of Ironworld and IDC. This position reports to the V.P. of Ironworld.
Qualifications:
5+ years of experience as a manager of a museum, historical society or related organization
Bachelor's degree in Museum Studies, Art History, History or related field, Master's strongly preferred
Experience with Historical Preservation
Excellent interpersonal skills; be diplomatic, discreet in handling confidential materials
Good fiscal responsibility in managing an operational budget
Professional demeanor and the ability to interact comfortably with the general public
Excellent delegation skills, sound judgment and ability to and motivate staff
Strong planning and organization skills in prioritizing workload and developing realistic action plans
History of development work and fundraising
Must have or obtain a valid driver's license
Responsibilities:
Manages day to day operations of the Museum, Heritage Park and the Glen Location
Works with the CEO and other senior staff to develop and implement institutional budget
Handles a broad range of complex issues and works with confidential materials
Works with museum staff to develop exhibits and programming that support Ironworld's mission
Implements the policies and directives of the Museum and Ironworld
Works on a wide variety of complex assignments
Frequently exercises independent judgment
Identifies and applies for various grants and foundation funds in support of the Museum operation
Maintain records for division personnel
Reports to the COO
Working conditions:
General office environment
Must be able to sit for long periods of time
Some weekends and evenings required
Both weekday and weekend hours required, some evenings
